US coronavirus deaths pass 83,000, Russia records 10,000 new cases in a day

Globally, 4,363,011 have been infected as of today, and the total number of deaths from the disease now stands at 293,348. The death toll from COVID-19 in the United States has now surpassed 83,000, making it the world's hardest-hit country.  US adds 1,894 coronavirus deaths in 24 hours according to tracker (AFP). The Covid-19 death toll in the UK has surpassed 40,000, making it the worst-affected country in Europe (Reuters). Russia records 10,000 new cases in a day.

Indonesia has reported its biggest daily rise in coronavirus infections today with 689 new cases, taking the total in the Southeast Asian country to 15,438. As many as 21 new deaths related to COVID-19 were reported, taking the total to 1,028, while 3,287 have recovered. (Input from Reuters)

Total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Singapore has risen to 24,671, according to Channel News Asia. The city-state reported 884 new cases yesterday. While 3,851 patients have been discharged from hospitals so far, 21 have died. Over 19,667 remain in isolation.

Brazil has recorded its deadliest day yet from the coronavirus with 881 confirmed deaths in 24 hours and confirmed cases exceeding Germany's, as President Jair Bolsonaro fought states over his push to ease lockdown restrictions.  Brazil's health ministry confirmed at least 12,400 deaths from the virus as of Tuesday, while the number of cases hit 177,589, passing Germany's 170,508 cases and drawing close to France, which has reported 178,225 confirmed and probable cases.
