Lunar Eclipse 2020: Check the effects on 12 zodiac signs
The Lunar eclipses occur when the Earth comes in between the moon and the Sun, which casts a shadow of Earth onto the moon resulting in less luminous light. They cast two types of shadows that is., penumbra and umbra. The umbra is the darkest part of the shadow during an eclipse while the penumbra is the lighter portion on the edges.
On July 5, the third lunar eclipse of the year will take place. On the same day, Guru Purnima 2020 will also be observed across the country. The eclipse on July 5 will be the penumbral Lunar Eclipse. This lunar eclipse will start from 8:38 am on July 5. A penumbral lunar eclipse occurs only when the more diffused outer shadow of the Earth - the penumbra - blocks some of the Sun's light from directly reaching the Moon; the outer part of the Earth's shadow or the penumbra covers all or part of the Moon. The penumbral lunar eclipse is also known as upchaya chandra grahan in Hindi.
It will be in its maximum phase at 09.59 am and will end at 11:00 am. The total duration of lunar eclipse will be around 2 hours 44 minutes.
