Why is Lord Shiva worshipped for Sixteen Mondays?

Seeing her plight, the priest asked the queen to observe the vow of sixteen Mondays with great faith and devotion. On the seventeenth Monday, the King heard a divine voice asking him to search for his wife. He immediately sent ambassadors to search everywhere for the exiled queen. Learning the whereabouts of his beloved wife, the king immediately went to that temple to find her and took her back to the capital.
